glycolysis metabolic sugar breakdown within cells
multisample needle double-ended needle designed to be used with an evacuated tube system
needle adapter translucent plastic cylinder connecting a multisample needle to an evacuated tube
thixotropic gel inert additive used to separate cells from plasma during centrifugation
occluded blocked
sclerosed hardened
mastetomy a surgical operation to remove a breast
lymphostasis lack of movement of lymph fluid
syncope fainting
reflux flow of blood from the collection tube back into the needle and then into the patient's vein
emesis nausea and vomiting
compartment syndrome condition in which collection of fluid in a confined space prevents blood flow
basal state the body's state after 12 hours of fasting and abstention from strenuous exercise
fasting specimen specimen drawn after a 12-hour complete fast
