Cell Organelles
Just the organelles and their function
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Nucleus | The control center of the cell. |
Nucleolus | Responsible for making ribosomes. Located inside the nucleus. |
Cell Membrane | Controls what enters and leaves the cell. |
Cytoplasm | Gelatin-like substance in which all life processes take place. |
Protoplasm | Consists of the cytoplasm and all interior organelles. |
Eukaryote | A cell that has membrane-bound organelles. |
Mitochondria | Sight of cellular respiration. Where energy is released from sugar. |
Chloroplast | In plant cells, the organelle which uses sunlight to create sugar. |
Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) | Folded membranes in which materials are processed and moved within the cell. |
Golgi | A system of membranes responsible for packaging substances into vessicles for use inside or outside the cell. |
Ribosome | Makes proteins. |
Lysosomes | In animal cells; responsible for digesting and recycling spent organelles. |
Vacuole | Used for storage of nutrients and water. |
