What is absolutism? Absolutism is a complete rule over ones land, area, or country; making all followers follow the head ruler.limitless power.
What is the divine right? The divine right is a statement that says that god gives the monarch the power to rule and motives shouldn't be questioned.
Who were Charles V and the Hapsburgs? Was the Spanish emperor, king of Spain, and the holy roman emperor.
Who was Phillip II? Inherited Spain from his father, was king of Spain, sought to strengthen power by war, colonies, and the catholic reformation but weakened Spain by incessant wars and poor economic choices.
Who was Cardinal Richelieu? Regent for Louis XIII(1610-1643) Richelieu broke the power of nobles and protestants Used the middle class for government jobs therefore making them loyal to the king, Challenged Hapsburg power by intervening in the thirty years war
Who was Louis XVI? Becomes most powerful king in Europe When Louis assumed full control at age 23, Worked long hours to strengthen France Broke power of the nobles and the protestants within society, Restored the economy, Builder of the palace of Versailles
Who was Ferdinand II? One of the starters of the thirty years war, ruled modern day germany, holy roman emporer, wanted control over protestants, took germany 100 years to rebuild after rein. Created peace of Westphalia.
What is the Thirty Years war? And the causes? A war about religous freedom, was started because Ferdinand II wanted more control over the protestants.
What is the Peace of Westphalia? The peace of westphalia is a peace treaty with germany that ended the thirty years war.
Who is Peter the Great? Disguised himself as a sailor and learned about shipbuilding, Russian, improved navy, make nobles shave beards and pledge aliance to him, moved capitol from Moscow to A new location and renamed it after himself as St.Petersberg.
Who is Henry VIII? Made himself king of the church so he would be allowed a divorce, had 6 wives, kept remarring to produce a son, last marriage succeded.English king.
Who is Mary I? Was the first queen of England, wanted to restore Catholisism, known as Bloody Mary for her temper and ill tolerance.
Who is Elizabeth I? Queen of England, known as the virgin queen, never married, vas not very strict with religion but was a known protestant.
Who is James I? was the first stuart of england and ireland.
Who is Charles I? the first king to be excecuted, ran country into debt.
Who is king James II? king james is the last of the stuart dynasty and he had the st.james bible written under the urging of others.
English Bill of Rights the bill stating the limits of the monarchies.
willam and mary of orange the daughter of the king that was excuted and then was the first to be under the rule of a limited monarchy.
limited monarchy every decision the royals made had to be processed and approved by higher ups which was unusual for the time period.
glorious revolution a bloodless battle fought by willam and mary of orange that in the end allowed for a limited monarchy.
