Affordable Care Act The landmark health reform legislation passed by the 11th Congress and generally referred to as Obamacare
certified nursing assistant Someone who helps patients with healthcare needs under the direction of a nurse.
health To e without illness or to be free from disease
healthcare system A network of agencies, facilities, and providers involved with healthcare in a specified geographic area
health disparity A greater difference that has been discovered between one group compared with another group, meaning that one group is suffering more than another group
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Enacted in 1996 as a way to protect everyone's privacy
Health promotion Strategies that aim at keeping a person healthy from the beginning
holistic healthcare A system of total pt care that considers physical, emotional social, economic, and spiritual needs of a person
illness a disease or sickness that affects the body and or mind
injury prevention Strategies that focus on prevention of injuries
Nurse A licensed person trained to care for the sick
ombudsman one appointed to represent a person to ensure that the rights of the pt are maintained
Omnibus budget reconciliation act (OBRA) standards for long term care facilities to ensure residents are able to achieve highest level of well-being
patient A person receiving medical treatment
physician Person who provides and practices medicine
wellness State of being in good physical and mental health
