Stalin's speech 1931

QuestionAnswer
What does the author say Stalin is arguing? At the start of the 1930s Stalin had fears and concerns. He spoke about the 'economic tasks' that would need to be done to industrialize the Soviet economy. Industrialization takes priority over economics.
What is the author saying Stalin is emphasizing? Stalin towards the end of the 1920s he states that the rate of which modernization and industrialization was increasing must keep increasing and that there must not be any slack in the process, otherwise Russia will continue to be picked onby Capitalists
Why was Stalin emphasizing this? The 'Old Russia' under the autocracy of Tsars was 'backward' in its culture, economics, politics, agriculture compared to its capitalist neighbors. Because of this Russia was regularly picked on. Improve not be bottom of the pack anymore. Respect.
