What are rifts? Long, deep valleys formed by the movement of the earth's crust.
What is the sub-Saharan Africa? Ahrica south of the Sahara.
What is a Sahel? A strip of land that divides the desert from wetter areas.
What is a savannah? An open grassland scattered with trees
What is a rain forest? A moist, densely wooded area.
What does it mean by extended family? Father, mother, children, and other close relatives in one house hold.
What is animism? The belief that bodies of water, animals, trees, and other natural objects have spirits.
What is a silent barder? a process in which people trade goods without contacting eachother directly.
Who was Tunka Manin? He was the nephew of the a previous king named Basi.
Wo was Sundiata? A ruler who led the rise to power with Mali.
Who was Mansa Musa? Mlai's most famous ruler, he was Muslim.
Who was Sunni Ali? Ruler of Songhai in 1464. Helped Songhai grow.
Who was Askia the Great? a man who achieved the title "the great" after overthrowing Sunni Baru.
What is oral history? A spoken record of past events.
Who were griots? They were West African storytellers.
What were proverbs? They were short sayings of wisdom or truth
What is a Kente? A hand-woven. brightly colored fabric.
