| acropolis | Greek for "city high point" |
| parthenon | famous temple built for the Greek goddess Athena |
| oligarchy | government where the people do not have choices and a few people have all the power |
| democracy | government "for the people, by the people"; the citizens have rights and some power |
| peninsula | land that is surrounded by water on 3 sides |
| civilization | a group who has developed advanced culture such as agricultures, writing system, government, & technologies. |
| philosopher | someone who loves gaining knowledge through studying the world around them and usually teaches others |
