| Middle Ages | The years between ancient and modern times |
| Medieval | referring to the Middle Ages |
| Feudalism | a system in which poor people were legally bound to work for wealthy people |
| Social Class | a division of society based on social and economic status |
| Manor | a large estate, often including farms and a village, ruled by a lord |
| Peasant | a person who made their living as a farmer or laborer, usually poor |
| Serf | a farm worker considered part of the manor they worked on |
| Noble | a person who belongs to a high social class |
| Knight | a man who received honor and land in exchange for serving a lord as a soldier |
| Samurai | Japanese warriors who defended nobles and their land |
| Guild | a medieval organization of merchants, traders, or crafts people |
| Economy | the wealth and resources of a country or region |
| Geography | the physical features of the earth |
| Culture | the way of life of a particular people |
| Monarchy | a government ruled by a king or queen. Power is usually inherited based on birth |
| Merchant | a businessperson engaged in retail trade |
| Artisan | a skilled worker who practices some trade or handicraft |
| Apprentice | a boy who worked for a guild master in order to learn a trade or craft |
| Vassal | someone who pledges their allegiance to a lord |
| Fief | an area of land given to a lord or vassal by a king |
