Catholic Universal or worldwide. Old Testament The first half of the Bible including holy writings of the Jewish people and their history as the chosen people.
Magesterium The Pope and the bishops interpreting the Bible and tradition for Roman Catholics today. Ordination Making someone a priest, bishop or deacon by the sacrament of holy orders.
Anglican Churches Churches that are in Communion with the Church of England. Orthodox Churches National Churches which are in union with the Patriarch of Constantinople (for example, the Russion Orthodox Church).
Celibacy Living without engaging in sexual activity. Papacy The office of the Pope.
Laity All the people of the Church who are not chosen to be bishops, preists or deacons.
Apostolic The belief that the Church can only be understood in the light of the Apostles. New Testament The second half of the Bible including the Gospels and letters (epistles).
Bishops Priests specially chosen by the Pope who are responsible for all the churches in the diocese. Nonconformist Churches Protestant Christians separated from the Church of England.
