| Prehistory | A time before written language |
| Paleolithic Age | The Old Stone Age where people did not know how to farm and were nomadic |
| Nomad | Someone who moves around from place to place in order to find food and shelter |
| Hunter-Gatherers | Men hunted for food. Women gathered fruits, berries, nuts and more! |
| Great Rift Valley | Birthplace of humanity in Africa |
| Neolithic Era | When human beings stopped being nomads and finally figured out how to farm |
| Fertile Soil | Dirt that is good for farming |
| Agriculture | The practice of farming and growing crops |
| Irrigation | The movement of water to land or crops |
| Tigris-Euphrates Rivers | Rivers in Mesopotamia that brought fertile soil |
| Cuneiform | Writing system using wedge-shaped symbols |
| Ziggurat | A temple or place of worship |
| Code of Hammurabi | Written set of laws. Very harsh and strict |
| Monotheism | Belief in one god |
| Polytheism | Belief in many gods |
| Monarchy | Rule by one person |
| Terrace Farming | Changing a mountain in order to grow food on it |
| Hominids | Humanlike creatures |
