| prayer of union | gift that unites memory, intellect and will with God |
| merit | reward that results in increased ability or capacity |
| prayer of quiet | supernatural grace resulting in the union of will with God |
| humility | virtue that allows us to see the truth about ourselves and about God |
| faculties of the soul | will, intellect and memory |
| passions of the soul | joys, hopes, sorrows and fears |
| recollection | enter within oneself with a focus on God |
| dryness | distaste for spiritual practices |
