Biosecurity Set of preventative measures designed to reduce the risk of transmissions of infectious diseases. Quarantines pests, invasive alien species, living modified organisms and biological weapons.
Market Niches Specialized in a specific limited market sector. Barnstable harbor oysters.
Genomics Branch of genetics that studies organisms in terms of their full DNA sequences.
Sustainable A method of harvesting or using a resource so that the resources is not depleted. This can be seen in ocean fisheries.
Science Represents an organized body of knowledge derived from a practical or experimental approach to problems.
Urbanization Movement of people from rural to urban areas with population growth; increasing proportion of an entire population living in cities or suburbs of cities.
Anaerobic Digestion A series or processes in which microorganisms break down biodegradable material without oxygen.
Risk Assessment A systemic process of evaluating the potential risks that may be invaded in a protected activity.
Effluent Water discharge from a rearing facility treatment plant or industry.
Risk A chance of encountering harm or loss.
Probiotics Beneficial bacteria that are fed to animals to improve digestion and health.
