Why were Europeans upset with the Congress of Vienna(COV)? Borders re-made by the CoV reinforced regional divisions, CoV installed foreign control and CoV restored monarchs.
What was the purpose of the revolutions of 1848? The Europeans were upset with the decisions made by the CoV.
What country avoided revolution in 1848 and why? England/Britain/UK, unaffected by the CoV and continued to expand political rights of the people through legislative means.
How did Giuseppe Garibaldi help Italian unification? Outcasted the Spanish Bourbons from the Southern Italian Peninsula through military conquest by the "Red Shirts".
How did Count de Cavour help Italian unification? United Northern Italy through political manipulation and alliances of convenience.
What war brought the Papal States into "Italy"? Franco-Prussian War.
Why were the Papal States the last to unify with "Italy"? Papal States didn't want to lose their Catholic powers there.
What was the "Risorgimento"? Italian Nationalists aspired for the "resurgence" the Roman Empire starting with the formation of an Italian Nation.
Who was Otton von Bismarck? "Iron Chancellor", powerful figure in all of Europe with political actions and philosophy.
What is "realpolitik"? Politics should be based on practically, efficiently, and efficacy rather than a sense of morality or idealism.
What was the nickname of Simon Bolivar? "El Liberatore" or "The Liberator"
What countries did Simon Bolivar liberate? Venezuela, Ecuador, PerĂº, and Bolivia (Northern Latin America).
Who is the father of Mexican Independence? Father Miguel Hidalgo
Who were the peninsulares? Spaniards born in Spain.
Who were the creoles and why did they rebel? Creoles were born in "New Spain" of Spanish parents, rebelled because they wanted a representative government and to end economically exploitative policies of mercantilism.
Who is the father of Haitian Independence? Toussaint L' Ouverture
What was unique about the Haitian Revolution? Slavery was abolished and independence was achieved, but when Toussaint L' Ouverture was captured by the French it all fell.
What was the Monroe Doctrine? Issued by President James Monroe in 1823, recognition of the independence of the newly liberated Latin American nations. Protecting the Americas.
