| Intensive Subsistence Agriculture | A form of subsistence agriculture in which farmers must expend a relatively large amount of effort to produce the maximum feasible yield from a parcel of land |
| Shifting Cultivation | A form of subsistence agriculture in which people shift activity from one field to another; each filed is used for crops for a relatively few years and left fallow for a relatively long period |
| Ecotourism | A form of tourism that strives to minimize ecological or other damage to areas visited for their natural or cultural interest |
| Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) | A gas used as a solvent, a propellant in aerosols, a refrigerant, and in plastic foams and fire extinguishers |
| Pilgrimage | A journey to a place considered sacred for religious purposes |
| Lingua Franca | A language mutually understood and commonly used in trade by people who have different native tongues |
| Isolated Language | A language that is unrelated to any other languages and therefore not attached to any language family |

| Creole Language | A language that results from the mixing of a colonizer's language |
