| tribes | a social group made up of families or clans |
| Torah | laws that Moses supposedly received from God; later became the first part of the Hebrew Bible |
| covenant | an agreement with God |
| Exodus | the departure of the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt |
| commandments | a rule that God wanted the Israelites to follow |
| psalm | a sacred song or poem used in worship |
| proverb | a wise saying |
| synogogue | a Jewish house of worship |
| Sabbath | a weekly day of worship and rest |
| tradition | a custom, or way of life, passed down from generation to generation |
| kosher | prepared according to Jewish dietary law |
| Diaspora | the groups of Jews living outside of the Jewish homeland |
| Culture | the beliefs and behaviors of a group of people. |
