prehistory Time before humans invented writing
hunter-gatherer Person who lives by hunting animals and gathering plants
technology skills and tools people use to address needs and wants (to make life easier)
Paleolithic Era about 2.5 million years ago to about 10,000 years ago (also known as the Old Stone Age)
culture Beliefs, customs, practices, and behaviors (way of life) of certain people or groups
nomad a person who moves from place to place without a permanent settlement
migration the movement of humans from one settlement location to another
adapt to change how you live to fit your environment
ice ages periods of time lasting thousands of years when glaciers (large sheets of ice) covered the Earth
animism Belief that the natural world is full of spirits
Neolithic Era starting about 10,000 years ago and lasting about 2,000-4,000 years (also known as the New Stone Age)
revolution complete change in ways of thinking, working, or living
agriculture farming
Neolithic Agricultural Revolution When people completely shifted from hunting to farming & establish permanent settlements
domesticate to tame or change the growth of plants & animals in ways that are useful to humans
specialization concentrating on a particular job or craft
