AP XRAY ANTEROPOSTERIOR - XRAY BEAM ENTERS THE PATIENTS ANTERIOR CHEST AND EXITS THROUGH THE POSTERIOR UPPER BACK. PATIENT IS LYING DOWN ON BACK. USED FOR PORTABLE XRAYS.
KUB KIDNEYS, URETERS AND BLADDER XRAYS. XRAY BEAM ENTERS THE PATIENTS CHEST AND ABDOMEN.
ULTRASOUND AKA SONOGRAPHY. USES PULSES OF INAUDIBLE ULTRA HIGH FREQUENCY SOUND WAVES TO CREATE AN IMAGE.
IVP INTRAVENOUS PYELOGRAM OR PYELOGRAPHY - PROCESS OF RECORDING. IODINATED CONTRAST DYE INJECTED INTO A VEIN THAT IS EXCRETED IN THE URINE BY THE KIDNEYS. IT OUTLINES THE URINARY TRACT LOOKS FOR KIDNEY STONES OR OTHER BLOCKAGES
DEXA DUAL ENERGY XRAY ABSORPTIOMETRY. USES DUAL (2) XRAY BEAMS WITH DIFFERENT ENERGY LEVELS TO CREATE A TWO DIMENSIONAL IMAGE. CAN DETECT AS LITTLE AS 1% BONE LOSS
PET POSITRON EMISSION TECHNOLOGY. PRODUCES IMAGES IN SLICES OF THE METABOLISM OF AN ORGAN.
HOW TO MEASURE A PATIENT'S EXPOSURE TO XRAYS REM - UNIT OF RADIATION RAD - RADIATION ABSORPTION DOSE. 1 REM AND 1 RAD ARE THE SAME THING. 10K RAD IS A LETHAL DOSE. HALF LIFE MEASURES THE RATE OF DECAY OF RADIATION IN PATIENTS. EG. HOW MUCH TIME IT TAKES 1/2 TO DISSAPATE.
