The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick

apocalyptic | A genre of writing that assigns the enactment of God's justice to after death or to an end time when good people will be rewarded and evil people will be punished |

Oil of the Sick | Olive or another plant oil that is blessed by a bishop either at a Chrism Mass or at the time of anointing; an efficacious sign of healing and strength |
extreme unction | A term that means "last anointing"; it once referred to the time that the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is received just before death; it is accompanied by a final reception of Holy Communion |
Viaticum | A term that means "food for the journey"; this is the last Holy Communion someone receives before death |
Society of Jesus | A religious institute established in the 16th century by St. Ignatius of Loyola to be engaged in preaching, teaching, writing, and the ministering of schools and colleges |
