Tumor Mass formed by neoplastic cells.
Palliative Care Improving the quality of life by relieving symptoms and reducing suffering.
Chemotherapy The use of chemical agents to destroy cancer cells.
TNM Staging Staging system that assesses cancer in 3 different categories; T= Size of primary tumor. N = extent of lymph node involvement. M = presence and extent of metastasis.
Surgery Treatment method used to remove tumors, cancerous organs and affected lymph nodes.
Benign Tumor Non-cancerous Tumor.
Oncology Study of tumors.
Metastasis Spreading of cancer cells from a primary site of origin to distant sites.
Radiation Therapy Use of ionizing radiation to destroy cancer cells.
Lung Cancer Causing most cancer related deaths in North America.
Cancer Collection of over 200 diseases characterized by uncontrollable cell division and lack of programmed cell death.
Carcinogens Cancer causing agents such as chemicals, radiation and viruses.
Malignant Tumor Cancerous tumor.
Cervical Cancer Cancer type in which viruses account for between 80%-90% of cases.
Local Spread A type of metastasis that involves direct invasion of tumors into surrounding tissues.
Neoplasia Development of any new and independent cells in the body that do not follow the same laws governing other cells and serve no useful purpose.
Seeding A type of metastasis that involves the spreading of cancer cells along surfaces of membranes that cover body cavities.
Staging General term used to describe the extent and spread of cancer.
In Situ Early cancer that is present only in the cell layers where it began; pre-invasive stage.
ABCDE Rules Of Cancer A = asymmetry B = Border irregularity C = color variations D = diameter >6mm E = elevation
