Gastrointestinal Tract Digestive Tract, begins with the mouth and ends with the anus.
Ingestion Complex food material taken into the mouth
Digestion Food is broken down, mechanically and chemically, as it travels through the gastrointestinal tract.
Digestive Enzymes Speed up chemical reactions and aid the breakdown of complex nutrients.
Amino Acid the breakdown of more complex proteins
Triglycerides Three parts fatty acids and one part glycerol
Fatty Acids the simplest breakdown of large fat or lipid molecules
Absorption nutrients from digested food pass through the lining cells or epithelium of the small intestine and into the bloodstream
Colon Consists of ascending, descending, and sigmoid sections.
Gallbladder Small sac under the liver; stores bile.
First part of the large intestine. Cecum
Anus end of the digestive tract opening to the outside of the body.
Jejunum Second part of the small intestine.
