The Counter Reformation

| The Inquisition | The Church court that arrested and put on trial suspected heretics. |
| Heresy | a belief that contradicts the teachings of the Church. |
| Auto da fé | an act of faith that often involved burning heretics at the stake. |
| Sanbenito | wearing of a yellow cloak as a form of punishment during the Inquisition |
| Catechism | a rulebook for Catholicism |
| Seminaries | Colleges to train priests |
