TermDefinition
Autonomy Freedom from external control or influence; independence.
Caste System The system of dividing society into heredity classes where individuals are fixed into a place in society from birth.
Constitutional Monarchy A form of government in witch a monarch acts as executive or head of state within the limits of a written constitution alongside a legislature and judiciary
Coup d'etat A sudden violent seizure of power from a government.
Creole or Criollo A person of total or mostly 100% European born in a Spanish colony.
Freedom The power or right to act speak, or think as one wants without interference or limit.
Gracias al Sacar In new Spain a legal way to buy one's own way into a higher rank of the Caste System.
Independence The fact or state of being self determining.
Mestizo In latin America a person of mixed race especially the offspring of a spaniard and an American Indian
Mullato A person of mixed white and black ancestry, especially a person with one white and one black parent (old fashioned and offensive)
Patriarchy A system of society or government in witch men hold the power and women / other minorities are largely excluded from it.
Peninsulares In the context of the spanish colonial Caste System, a peninsular was a spanish born spaniard residing in the new world.
Popular Sovereignty Is the principle that the authority of a country and its government is created and sustained by the consent of its people.
Revolution An armed overthrow of a government or social order in favor of a new system.
Revolutionary A person who works for or participates in a political revolution.
Trans-Cultural Blending The coming together of multiple cultures to create a new one ( The strongest examples of this is in north and south America with countries such as Mexico and the united states.
