CPT is composed of: 8 sections
stand alone codes contain the full description of the procedure for the code
indented codes codes that are listed under associated stand alone codes
add on codes used for procedures that is always performed during the same operative session as another surgery in addition to the primary service or procedure
modifiers 2 digits to be added to give a more accurate description of the services rendered.
CPT codes are: 5 digit codes
▲ represents change in the code description since the last edition
► ◄ represents changes in the text of definition between the triangles
• represents a new procedure or service code since the previous edition of the manual
+ indicates a add-on code
Φ rotated 90 degrees (circle with a line through it) represents exemption from the use of a modifier
