Landmarks when looking at bones
| Term | Definition |

| Process | A projection from a bone |
| Crest | A prominent ridge |
| Tubercule | A small, rounded projection |
| Trochanter | A large, rough projection |
| Tuberosity | A smaller, rough projection |
| Ramus | An extension of a bone that makes and angle with the rest of the bone like a branch of a tree |
| Spine | A pointed or narrow process |
| Line | A low ridge |
| Foramen | A rounded passage way or hole for blood vessels or nerves |
| Head | An expanded articular surface separated from the shaft by a neck |
| Neck | A narrow connection between a head and the shaft of a bone |
| Condyle | A smooth, rounded articular surface |
| Trochlea | A smooth, grooved articular surface shaped like a pulley |
| Facet | A small, flat articular surface |
| Fossa | A shallow depression |
| Meatus | A canal or passage way through the substance of a bone |
| Fissure | An elongated cleft |
| Epicondyle | A term for a projection above a condyle |
