| Muslim | A person who follows the religion of Islam. |
| 5 Pillars | The rules that all Muslims follow. |
| Quran or Koran | The book (sacred writings) that Muslims use. |
| Arabic | The language of Islam. It spread with the spread of the religion. |
| Mecca | The city in Arabia where Islam began. |
| Armies | Islam spread when Muslims conquered territory. |
| Trade routes | Islam spread along these that often began in Mecca and Medina. |
| Battle of Tours | The Frankish victory in this battle prevented Islam from spreading into Western Europe. |
| Jerusalem | The city where Judaism and Christianity began. It was conquered by Muslims. |
| Dome of the Rock | The famous mosque constructed by Muslims in the city of Jerusalem. |
| Sunni | Muslims who believe that anyone can be a Muslim leader. |
| Shia | Muslims who believe that leaders should be related to Muhammad or his cousin, Ali. |
| Algebra | Invented by a Muslim mathematician. |
| Arabic [Indian] numerals | Muslim merchants learned these and spread them around the globe. The numerals most people use today. |
