Mythology | a collection of stories about gods and heroes that try to explain how the world works |
Fables | short stories that teach the reader lessons about life or give advice on how to live |

Pericles | an elected leader of Athens, was brilliant and encouraged people to participate in the government |
Homer | a great Greek poet that created some of the earliest Greek writings such as the Iliad and Odyssey |
Socrates | a teacher and great thinker. He believed that people should never stop looking for knowledge. |
Democracy | a type of government in which people rule themselves |
Oligarchy | a type of government in which only a few people have power |
Tyrant | a leader who held power through the use of force |
