Indulgences Paying money to the church for forgiveness of sins
Commerce The buying and selling of goods.
Excommunicate To be thrown out of the church - no longer allowed to be part of it.
circumnavigate to sail completely around the world.
conquistador A Spanish conqueror
colony a settlement that is physically separated from, but under the control of a ruling country.
mercantilism an economic system whereby a country gets its raw goods from the colony then makes products with the goods and sells them back to the colony.
Armada The Spanish naval fleet
Triangle Trade Slaves from Africa were brought to the West Indies to be sold for sugar cane that was brought to New England to make rum.
Reformation Break from the Catholic Church
Protestant The branch of Christianity that broke from the Catholic Church.
