How is plasma and serum obtained? Centrifugation
A instrument that spins test tubes at high speed to separate the cells and liquid part of the blood? Centrifuge
Chemistry section uses color tubes? Primarily serum is coilected in gel barrier tubes but may also use red, gray or royal blue stoppers
A specimen taken with a red appearance is called? Hemolyzed cause hemoglobin in the specimen
A specimen taken with a yellow appearance is called? Icteric cause bilirubin in the specimen
A specimen taken with a cloudy appearance is called? Lipemic cause increased lipids
Prothrombin time (PT) is? A blood test to see how long it takes for the blood to clot.
Coagulation section use color tubes? Light blue top (anticoagulate sodium citrate) Red sometimes
Serology(immunology) section use color tubes? Red top tubes
