Tell what event directly triggered World War I The Austrian Archduke Francis Ferdinand was assassinated
The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand was the spark that set off WWI. Name three other reasons for the tense situation in Europe. 1. France lost a war against Germany in 1871 and wanted to get back the provinces of Alsace and Lorraine. 2. Russia and Austria-Hungary disagreed about the territorial borders in the Balkans. 3. European countries built up its military forces.
Why did the United States enter the war? German submarines were attacking merchant ships from neutral nations. The US lost people in these attacks. The US declared war on Germany and joined the Allies. President Woodrow Wilson said it was time to "make the world safe for democracy."
If not every country was involved in WWI, why do you think it was called a "world" war?
Mention some wartime development inventions The submarine, improved airplanes, more powerful weaponry.
What was the purpose of the League of Nations? It was set up after the war in the hope of maintaining world peace.
