City -State An early city that was like a small independent country with its own laws and government
Silt Fine particles of Rock
Levee A wall of earth built to prevent a river from flooding its banks
Irrigation system A means of supplying land with water;this often served the needs of several communities
Sumerians Ancient people who lived in the geographic region of Sumer
Sumer An area of Mesopotamia where cities first started to appear
Tigris River One of the largest rivers in Southwest Asia that flow from the mountains of Turkey to the Persian Gulf
Euphrates River The longest river in South west Asia that flows from the mountains of Turkey to the Persian Gulf, a water source to rich fertile soil for farmers
Mesopotamia The geographic area located between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, it means the land between the rivers
