| Head | Enlarged, often rounded (smooth surface) end; neck where head is connected |
| Margin or border | Edge of bone |
| Ramus | Branch off the body beyond the angle (90degree angle; mandible) |
| Condyle | Smooth, rounded articular surface (meant for articulation with another bone) |
| Facet | Smooth, flattened articular surface |
| Crest | Prominent ridge, thicker |
| Spine | Very high and pointed ridge (sharp pointed structure, pointed projection) |
| Projections | Extend from main mass of bone |
| Process | Prominent projection (general term, projection off body) |
| Tuberosity | Knob, larger than a tubercle (rough) |
| Trochanter | Tuberosities on the proximal femur (found on the femur only) |
| Tubercle | Small, rounded bump (may or may not articulate) |
| Epicondyle | Upon a condyle, rough, meant for tendon to attach to muscles |
| Foramen | Any hole is a bone |
| Fissure | Cleft, slit |
| Meatus | Tunnel, canal |
| Sinus or antrum | Cavity |
| Depression | Groove in the bone |
| Fossa | General term for any depression |
| Groove or sulcus | Deep, narrow depression (linear groove) |
