cultural diffusion the spread of ideas and traits from one culture to another.

polis Greek word for city-states.
city-state a city that with its surrounding territory forms an independent state.
classical an age marked by great achievement.
acropolis Greek for high hill. A fortress was usually built on top.
influence to change or have an effect on.
democracy a type of government in which people rule themselves.
aristocrats rich landowners
oligarchy a government in which only a few people have power.
citizens people who had the right to participate in government.
tyrant A leader who held power through force.
