SW Asia Middle East Culture/Religion
| Term | Definition |

| Religious Group | Shares a belief system in a God or gods, with a specific set of rituals and literature. |
| Ethnic Group | A group of people who share cultural ideas and beliefs that have been a part of their community for generations. |
| Culture | The way a group of people live. Includes the way they dress, where they live, what they eat, and their religion. |
| Judaism | Monotheistic religion, founded by Abraham, the holy writing is the Torah, and their God is called Yahweh. |
| Islam | It is a monotheistic religion that was founded by Muhammad. Its holy cities are Mecca and Medina, their holy text is the Qur'an, and they worship the god Allah. |
| Christianity | This movement grew out of Judaism. It was founded by Jesus Christ. Their holy text is the Bible, and their holy city is Jerusalem. |
| Kurds | Live in several different countries is Southwest Asia, speak Kurdish, and have their own history, literature, music, and traditions. |
| Monotheism | The doctrine or belief that there is only one God. |
| Persians | Live in the modern country of Iran, are descended from Indo Europeans, and speak Farsi. |
| Arabs | Believe themselves to be descended from Abraham, they make up the majority of the population of Southwest Asia and they speak Arabic. |
| Abraham | Founder of Judaism, connected in some way to all three major religions of Southwest Asia. |
| Muhammad | Founder of Islam, prophet of Allah. |
| Jesus Christ | Founder of Christianity, taught of a personal relationship with God. Many followers of Christianity believe is the son of God. |
| Mosque | The place Muslims go to worship and pray |
| Church | The place Christians go to pray and worship |
| Synagogue | Jewish religious center and place of worship |
