AQA GCSE RS A Worship keywords
| Term | Definition |

| Worship | Showing respect and value for God |
| Prayer | Communication with God. Words of praise, thanks or sorrow, etc. - offered to God |
| Private worship | A believer giving God praise and worship on his or her own |
| Meditation | Being silent and thoughtful in the presence of God |
| Aids to prayer | Items that help Christians to focus when they pray |
| Statue | A three-dimensional figure that represents Jesus, Mary or one of the saints |
| Icon | A religious image of Jesus or one of the saints, used by Orthodox Christians and others - They are seen as being filled with the spirit of the person shown |
| Rosary | A method of prayer, mainly used by Roman Catholics - the beads used during the praying of the Rosary |
| Public worship | Christians gathering together to praise God |
| Liturgical worship | A church service which follows a set text or ritual |
| Non-liturgical worship | A service which does not follow a set text or ritual |
| Structured worship | Worship which follows a fixed pattern, e.g. Mass has a clear set structure that the priest |
| Lord’s Prayer | The prayer taught to the disciples by Jesus; also known as the ‘Our Father’ |
| Mother of God | An alternative title for Mary, based on the belief that Jesus is God |
| Spontaneous worship | Worship which has no set structure, but which allows worshippers to say or do what seems right at the time - Worshippers believe that they are guided by the Holy Spirit |
