| Annunciation | The event where Mary says “yes” to God and conceived through the Holy Spirit and not by sex |
| Assumption | To be “taken up” or “lifted” into heaven, body and soul, by God |
| Doctrine | A special word for a key religious belief |
| Dogma | Key belief and teaching of the Roman Catholic Church on issues of faith |
| Free from original sin | Not sharing in the basic idea of human beings to turn away from God towards sin and temptation |
| Immaculate Conception | Mother of Jesus who is believed to have been conceived in in her mother’s womb free from sin |
| Incarnation | God taking human form in the person of Jesus |
| Mary | Mother of Jesus, held in great honour by many |
| Mediatrix | Someone who does on behalf of another, also understood as a mediator |
| Mother of God | Title given to mother of Jesus based on the belief that Jesus is God |
| Rosary | A method of prayer used by Roman Catholics using the counting of beads |
| Saint | Someone who might be seen to inspire, help, guide and support another- as a result is looked up to and admired |
| Theotokos | God bearer- literally meaning to “carry” the incarnation, Mother of God |
| Virgin Birth | The belief that the Mother of Jesus had conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, not through a sex |
