| Term | Definition |

| Sacraments | Rites and rituals through which the believer receives a special gift, an outward sign of inward grace. |
| Rites of Passage | Events which indicate that a person is moving on to a new stage in their life - e.g. Baptism |
| Initiation | Formal entry into a religion |
| Baptism | The sacrament through which people become members of the Church - washing away of sins a rite of initiation. |
| Infant Baptism | The initiation into the Church of babies and young children |
| Believer’s Baptism | Initiation into the Church by immersion in water, of people old enough to understand |
| Confirmation | The sacrament in which the faith of the believer is ‘confirmed’ or strengthened by the Holy Spirit |
| Gifts of the Holy Spirit | 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit, gives newly confirmed people the help to live a Christian life |
