Geography of Japan

archipelago chain of islands
Japan an archipelago located in the Eastern and Northern hemispheres. Made up of four main islands and hundreds of smaller islands.
Hokkaido main island farthest to the north.
Honshu South of Hokkaido is the largest of islands.
Shikoku smallest of the main islands.
Inland Sea surrounds Shikoku, the smalles of the main islands
Nagaskai Largest city on Kyushu. Once destroyed by atomic bombs during WWII. Now, it is a thriving, industrial city today.
Tokyo Capitol city of Japan. One of the world's largest cities. In earlier times Tokyo was know as Edo.
Mount Fuji Famous volcano in Japan. Very beautiful. Many people enjoy hiking, sightseeing, and meditating.
Kyoto Southwest of Mount Fuji. Many Japanese emperors once lived.
Osaka Large seaport city.
Hiroshima Once destroyed by atomic bombs during WWII. Now, it is a thriving, industrial city today.
Sendai Located at the northern end of the island of Honshu
Pacific Ocean Large body of water East of Japan
Sea of Japan body of water that is to the west of Japan.
