Question | Answer |
---|---|
Beta cells | insulin |
Alpha cells | glucagon |
Delta cells | somatostatin and gastrin |
Glucoagon | stimulated by low blood glucose levels. stimulates gluconeogenisis |
Somatostatin | inhibits secretion of insulin, glucagon, and gastrin |
Insulin | synthesized with C peptide, secreation increased by high glucose levels, receptors use tyrosine kinase |
Carcinoma of pancrease | more common in smokers, almost always adenocarcinoma, manifest as migratory phlebitis and obstructive jaundice |
Chronic pancreatitis | progressive arnchymal fibrosis, associated with alcohal consumption, may be calcified or produce psuedocysts |
Acutepancreatitis | caused by activated pancreatic enzymes resulting in autodigestion, with hemorrhagic fat necrosis and depsotion of calcium salts, increases amylase, hypocalcemia |
