OLMEC Started the FIRST complex civilizations around 1500 BCE. In 1200 BCE Built a far reaching trading empire. Near present day Vera Cruz, Mexico. Lasted about 800 years.
MAYA Built a civilization in the rainforests of the Yucatan Peninsula and used their central location, southern Mexico and Central America , to trade with canoes.
INCA- Civilization built in the Andes Mountain ranges of present day Peru. Built thee biggest Empire in the ancient Americas. It centered around the capital Cuzco, founded in 1100 ACE
AZTEC
TEOTIHUACAN One of the first planned cities built by the maybe the the Toltec. No one is quite sure. it is know as “Place of the Gods”
TENOCHTITLAN Aztec city means ‘Place of Prickly Pear Cactus” Tenochtitlan was a city-state located on an island in Lake Texcoco in the Valley of Mexico.
HONDURAS was home to several important Mesoamerican cultures, most notably the Maya
YUCATAN PENINSULA-- Located in MesoAmerica. Body of land surrounded by water on three sides.
MONOPOLY sole rights, complete control over a product. This is illegal in the United States because the company in control of a service could charge whatever they wanted without competition.
CONTINENT-- Large land mass of which there are 7 in the world.
TRADE ROUTE- the path a civilization would use to exchange goods
TRADING EMPIRE Main source of wealth is through trade
ECONOMY (ESPN) Jobs that support a civilization
SOCIAL (ESPN) Culture, games, food, religion
POLITICAL (ESPN)- Government, army, King, Queen
ENVIRONMENT (ESPN) The world around you. Example, rainforest, Mountains, Flatlands, Desert, Lake, Ocean
PACHACUTI-- son of the eight incan king. He became king and expaned the ican Empire.He biult Machu picchu . center for celebrations and ceremonial gatherings
GOVERNMENT- Democracy, Dictatorship, Monarchy, Theocracy , Totalitarian, Republics and Anarchy. How a civilization is run. We are a Democracy in the United States.
PETEN Mayan word for ‘flat region’ located in present day Guatemala
ASTRONOMER Studies the the stars and heavens
ARCHEOLOGIST an anthropologist who studies prehistoric people and their culture
AQUEDUCT a conduit or artificial channel for conducting water from a distance, usually by means of gravity. a bridgelike structure that carries a water
