empire Many nations or territories ruled by a single group or leader.
savanna A grassy plain with few trees.
Islam One of the major religions of the world.
archaeology A special branch of history in which people study objects from the past.
vegetation region An area characterized by the type of plants that grow there.
tropical rainforest A forest with tall trees, warm climate, and lots of rain.
Muslim Someone who practices the religion of Islam.
artifacts Objects from the past that are left for us to study.
oral history Information from the past that you get from talking to people about their experiences.
griot African tribal storyteller
