Infectious Mono Tests

infectious mononucleosis "mono" "kissing disease", caused by epstein-barr virus (EBV), transmission: saliva, latent (dormant), 50% with virus>>actually get mono, 15-24 y/o, 95% adults have EBV by 40 y/o
based on 1,2,3 >> incubation period ? based on clinical symptoms, hematological findings, immunological test results >> incubation period = 4-6 weeks before detectable
clinical symptoms fever, sore throat, fatigue, lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly
hematological findings lymphocytosis, atypical/reactive lympnocytes
immunological test results detect heterophile antibodies (specifically assoc. with IM and peak 2-4 weeks)
immuno-chromato-graphic color changes due to antibody and antigen reactions
CLIA waived with whole blood
Immunochromatographic test principles qualitative test, bovine RBC antigen particles coat test strip membrane, color change in testing area appears w/ pos reaction=IM heterophile antibodies present
