Gender and Culture: Organization and Identity

What is gender? A cultural construction of sexual differences, based on shared ideas about male and female roles, as well as biology.
What is sexual dimorphism? Marked differences in male and female biology (i.e. average weight, height strength, and life expectancy)
What are two biological factors of gender? Sexual dimorphism and the ability to reproduce.
What are the cultural factors of gender? Gender roles, gender stereotypes,gender stratification (unequal distribution of power)
What is sexual orientation? A person's sexual attraction's and activities.
Horticulturalists see what kind of society? Matrifocal and Patrifocal
Pastoralists see what kind of society? Patrifocal
Industrial societies see what kind of society? Variable and changing
