What are Confucius key values? Ren--a sense of humanity, kindness, benevolence Li--a sense of propriety, courtesy, respect, deference to elders Xiao--filial piety, familial obligation Cultivate personal morality and junzi for bringing order to China
Who is Mencius? Mencius was a spokesman for the Confucius school
What were their beliefs? believed in the goodness of human nature and advocated government by benevolence and humanity
Who was Xunzi? He was a man that had less positive views on human nature
What did he believe? He believed that humans selfishly presue own interests and he preferred harsh social discipline to bring order into society
What is Daoism? Laozi is the founder of this religion which featured doubts of Confucian activism which prefers a life in harmony with nature
What is The Dao? The Dao is the way of nature. The Dao is passive and yielding it does nothing but it helps people accomplish everything
What is legalism? Legalism is the doctrine of practical and efficient statecraft which means that it has no concern with ethics or morality and with the principles governing nature
Shang Yang Han Feizi (390-338 BCE) chief minister of Qin and legalist writer (280-233 BCE) wrote essays that had his legalism ideas
