conquistadors a conqueror, especially one of the Spanish conquerors of Mexico and Peru in the 16th century.
isthmus a narrow piece of land connecting two larger areas across an expanse of water that otherwise separates them
astrolabe a very ancient astronomical computer for solving problems relating to time and the position of the Sun and stars in the sky.
navigator a person who directs the route or course of a ship, aircraft, or other form of transportation, especially by using instruments and maps.
northwest passage a sea route connecting the northern Atlantic and Pacific Oceans through the Arctic Ocean, along the northern coast of North America via waterways through the Canadian Arctic Archipelago.
expedition a journey or voyage undertaken by a group of people with a particular purpose, especially that of exploration, scientific research, or war.
