| What were the first tools used for? | Processing food (cutting, chopping, scraping) |
| What is a society? | A community of people who share a common culture |
| What are hunter-gatherers? | People who hunt animals, and gather plants, seeds, fruits, and nuts to survive. |
| What did men do in hunter-gatherer groups? | Hunt, take care of fire |
| What did women do in hunter-gatherer groups? | Gather, take care of home and children |
| Why was the development of language important? | Made hunting easier; Helped form relationships; Helped resolve issues |
| What does migrate mean? | To move |
| What does ice ages mean? | Long periods of freezing weather |
| What does land bridge mean? | Strip of land connecting two continents |
| How did humans migrate during the Ice Ages? | Began in Africa and went to Asia. From Asia, spread to Europe, North America, South America, and Australia. |

| What does Neolithic mean? | New Stone Age |
| What happened during the Neolithic Revolution? | Humans went from food gathering, like hunter-gatherers, to food producing, meaning they made their own food. |
| What does domestication mean? | Changing plants and animals to make them useful to humans. |
| What is agriculture? | Farming |
| How did domestication and agriculture impact early man? | Made survival easier. Did not have to move around as much. Supplies needed for survival were more easily available. People began to build permanent settlements. |
| What is irrigation? | A way of supplying water to an area of land. |
| What are canals? | Human-made waterways |
| What is a surplus? | More than is needed |
| What is a division of labor? | An arrangement in which each worker specializes in a particular task or job |
| How did irrigation change things for early man? | Irrigation allowed control over how much food was made, which led to having a surplus of food, which allowed people to do different jobs. |
