Key Terms

Bible the Word of God; the Holy Spirit guided people to write all that is contained in the Bible
Holy Trinity One God in 3 Divine Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit
Mass the celebration of the Eucharist---we share in the life, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ
Liturgy of the Word the part of the Mass in which we hear the Word of God in the Scripture
Liturgy of the Eucharist the part of the Mass in which the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ
Ten Commandments the laws God gave to Moses to help us live in peace with God and others
Covenant a sacred agreement that God made with the Hebrew people
Sacred Images statues or pictures that remind us of God, Mary, and the saints
Worship to give honor, thanks, and praise to God
First Commandment tells us to place God first in our lives
Second Commandment tells us to use God's name with respect
Third Commandment tells us to set aside a whole day to honor God
Petition a prayer in which we ask God for something that is needed
Faith belief in God
Mercy the loving kindness that God shows to sinners
Kingdom of God God's promise of justice, peace, and joy that all His people will share at the end of time
Our Father the prayer Jesus taught us; it is a special prayer in which we honor God and thank Him for His goodness
Mystery that which cannot be fully understood about God
Sin any thought, word, or action that turns us away from God and the way God wants us to live
