TermDefinition
"The Prince" A modern treatise on government. It stated how to be a good ruler. The main message was "the ends justify the means"
Classicism A return to the ideals of Greece and Rome in intellectual thought, art and architecture
Flanders It was the city that served as the center for the Northern Renaissance
Florence It was a trade (textiles) and major banking city in Italy that served as the center for the Italian Renaissance
Greco-Roman A blend of Greek and Roman cultures
Humanism A movement celebrating the glory and power of human beings as an important part of the world
Perspective The appearance of things relative to one another as determined by their distance from the viewer
Renaissance It is a rebirth; The Italian and Northern Renaissance were a rebirth of Greco-Roman culture
Republics The government of each Italian city-state where citizens control the government.
Secularism An interest in the nonreligious world and enjoyment of worldly pleasures
Sistine Chapel Michelangelo painted the ceiling of this chapel with "The Last Judgment" on the end of the cathedral
Usury The act of charging interest on money loaned
