Christianity (33%) Europe, the Americas, Philippines, S. Africa Jesus is the Messiah.
Islam (20% Middle East Founded by prophet Muhammad. Islam means "submission."
Hindu (13%) India Believe in reincarnation, karma, and dharma (personal duty)
Buddhism (5.8%) China Based on teachings of Siddartha Gautama, "The Buddha" which means "Awakened One." Working toward "Nirvana," freedom from suffering.
Sikhism (.39%) Punjab, India God is interpreted as the Universe itself. Sikh is a "student."
Judaism(.23%) Israel Does not believe that Jesus was God. More of a culture than a religion.
Baha'i Faith Asia, Africa, Latin America Founded in Persia, means "glory." Emphasizes the underlying unity of the major world religions.
Confucianism China "Filial piety" is a key principle. More of a philosphy than a religion.
Jainism India No Supreme Being; every living soul is potentially divine.
Shinto Japan Polytheistic and animistic. Great love and reverance for nature. Shinto means spirits.
