Russian Revolution

TermDefinition
Lenin Leader of the Bolsheviks. Organized the overthrow of Czar Nicholas II His promises of "Peace" and "Land" won him the support of those opposed to the Czar.
Stalin Became leader of the communists after Lenin's death. Established a totalitarian government. "purged" his enemies by conducting "show trials" and executing millions.
"Class Struggle" One could understand the cause of History's conflicts and wars by understanding this concept. Concept: For Marx it meant the struggle was between factory owners and the factor workers. Concept: Conflict in history was caused by the struggle between the "haves" and "have-nots"
Karl Marx He urged the workers of the world to "unite!" and seize control of their factories and governments. His writings were a response to the problems faced by workers during the Industrial Revolution. Wrote the Communist Manifesto in 1848.
"proletariat" Marx's "have-nots" Included factory workers and peasants.
classless society Marx wanted to create a world without with rich and poor. Eliminate extremes in wealth. In order to accomplish this, private profit had to be brought to an end.
Treaty of Brest-Litovsk Lenin negotiated Russia's surrender to Germany. Aided the German war effort and hurt the Allied war effort.
"workers of the world, unite!" Call for war upon the "haves" - or bourgeoisie. Marx urged workers to wage violent war with the purpose of seizing control of factories and government.. The revolution had to spread worldwide..
Czar Nicholas II Last King of Russia. Overthrown by the Bolsheviks. Executed by the Communists.
