Roman Republic

Dictator a ruler with total power over a country, typically one who has obtained power by force.
Republic elect citizens to run on behalf of all citizens
Patrician nobleman who owned big pieces of land and had lots of money
Plebeian regular folks – traders, craftsmen, farmers, everyone but noblemen and slaves
Revolt protest
Secede withdraw formally from membership in a federal union, an alliance, or a political or religious organization
Checks and balances no one branch can get too much power over another, all three branches of government work together and check each other
